Kevin Hart, Augusta Chronicle, by Renee Williams
Standing at five-foot-four, Philadelphia funny man, Kevin Hart, may be small on stature but seems to know how to use his comedic muscle to roll with the punches and stay on top. From releasing his first stand-up album “I'm a Grown Little Man” in 2009 to reaching the ranks of Hollywood's A-list elite in 2015, Hart’s current “WHAT NOW?” tour is the highest grossing comedy tour of all time.
Comedy star and entertainer, Kevin Hart will bring his highly anticipated “WHAT NOW?” stand-up routine to the James Brown Arena on June 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at georgialinatix.com or by phone 877-428-4849. Tickets are $69.50, $125.50.
After graduating high school, Hart relocated to New York and used his candid hip-hop humor to begin working steadily in stand up comedy. Hart began appearing on Comedy Central specials while landing small roles in films like “Soul Plane,” “Scary Movie 3” and “Little Fockers.” When Hart’s “Laugh at My Pain” documentary debuted in the Top 10 in 2011, the industry took notice and Hart was on his way to becoming a full-fledged star. Hart’s career expanded later that year as he took on starring roles in "Think Like a Man" and BET’s "Real Husbands of Hollywood.” Hart’s second stand-up film "Let Me Explain" grossed $32 million and catapulted Hart to movie stardom alongside Ice Cube in "Ride Along.” To date, Hart has appeared in more than 30 feature films and over 20 television shows.
With a celebrated and award-winning career Hart feels grateful, "I couldn't ask for a better road. I couldn't ask for a better situation to be in," Hart told the Augusta Chronicle in 2011. "I get paid to make people laugh, and within that world I can actually say that it's going above and beyond expectations. I didn't expect to be in the situation that I'm in at this point in my career. Granted that I'm here now, it's amazing."
Always a big hit with fans, Hart’s current films "The Wedding Ringer” and “Get Hard,” prove that Hart has an enormous fan base. However, many movie critics do not share the same sentiment as Hart’s movies receive predominately negative reviews from the critics.. “Get Hard” was considered a financial success, grossing $105 million worldwide but the film received many negative reviews as critics took issue with Hart’s off-color jokes about prison rape, class and race. Recently, more cringe-worthy jokes flew as Hart hosted Comedy Central's "Roast of Justin Bieber and ironically enough Hart found himself in the hot seat at the unlikely hands of Martha Stewart.
Keeping on track and showcasing his resilience, Hart has partnered with Rally Health for his “WHAT NOW?” tour and has been designated their first health ambassador. Hart along with Rally will bring important health information to encourage community members to keep health and wellness top of mind during his “WHAT NOW?” tour. Hart “I really do believe that laughter is the best medicine. Not only does it make you feel good, but I love knowing that it’s actually good for you, too,” said Hart in a recent press release. “I love the Rally Health mission and couldn’t be more excited to work with the Rally Health team to help consumers laugh a little more and make better decisions about their health and wellbeing.”
Hart has continued to work non stop in the movie industry and maintains one of the most rigorous national comedic touring schedules around. As ? he bright lights Hart is next up for "Ride Along 2," due in January, and another action-comedy called "Central Intelligence" which pairs Hart with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In a likely sign that he has truly made it, Hart will also provide the voice of a bunny named Snowball in the 3-D animated film, "The Secret Lives of Pets."
