Rick Springfield & Richard Marx

On Dec 6, the longest running radio station in the Augusta area, 104.3 WBBQ will celebrate 70 years of the “most music and best variety” with the WBBQ 70th Birthday Bash, featuring legendary artists Rick Springfield and Richard Marx. Springfield and Marx will team up for a set of intimate solo acoustic performances with full sets from each artist with part of the proceeds benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

Springfield has worn many hats as an entertainer and performer and long with a solid decade's worth of work in the 70s, Springfield was the creator of some of the finest power-pop of the 80s. He sold over 25 million albums and scored 17 U.S. Top 40 hits, including Jessie’s Girl, Don’t Talk to Strangers, An Affair of the Heart, I’ve Done Everything for You, Love Somebody and Human Touch. 12 million daily viewers who avidly tuned in to General Hospital to swoon over him as the handsome Dr. Noah Drake.

Performing alongside Springfield, Marx’s whose nearly three-decade-long career has had innumerable highlights as performer, songwriter and producer. The Chicago native has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, starting with his self-titled debut which went to #8 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and spawned four Top 5 singles, including the chart-topping Hold on to the Nights and Don’t Mean Nothing which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. The follow-up, 1989’s Repeat Offender, was even more successful, hitting #1 and going quadruple-platinum with two #1 singles in “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting.” When both Rush Street (with two #1 AC hits in “Keep Coming Back” and “Hazard”) and Paid Vacation (with its #1 AC hit, “Now and Forever”) went platinum, Marx achieved a seven-year string of triumphs that rivaled any in pop-rock music history. To this day, he is the only male artist in history to have his first seven singles reach the Top 5 on the Billboard charts.

Date, time, venue, price, etc.

In a recent email interview with The Augusta Chronicle, Springfield discusses what’s next for him in the film and music industry, elaborates on his current project co-headlining an intimate solo acoustic performance with Richard Marx and what Augusta can expect for his upcoming show.

1.) On Dec. 6, you will perform with Richard Marx as part of WBBQ’s 70th Birthday Bash. A portion of proceeds will benefit Children’s Hospital Of Georgia. In your life, how have you as a parent learned to stay strong and healthy during unexpected life events involving your children?

A) Every situation is different and depending on the severity, being in shock is natures way of getting you through the initial event. Cops came to our door one morning at 2 AM and said our eldest son had been found half conscious and bleeding on the side of the road and he had been taken to emergency. It worked out and he recovered but you just do what you must at the time. There is no other choice if you love someone.

2.) In October 2017, you appeared as Pastor Charles on FX’s American Horror Story: Cult and have an extensive tour. What’s next in the film & music industry for you?

A) More great stuff I hope. I have really grown to get as much out of a good acting gig as a good musical one and now, it's sometimes hard to be on the road away from home a lot so I've cut back on touring and am looking for more great acting work. I've spoken with people about upcoming projects but theres nothing to really mention yet as everyone keeps new work pretty close to their chests. Once it's in the can you can talk about it.

3.) You and Richard Marx are teaming up for a series of co-headlining, intimate solo acoustic performances, with full sets by both of you....What do you feel are the advantages of an acoustic performances and what can Augusta expect?

A) It's really moment by moment and very open to ad lib and change which is why I enjoy the solo shows. There's a lot of humor in both my and Richards shows so it's a great mix. My show is kind of the arc of my life and stories about my life and career and what caused certain songs to be written. Also there are a lot of personal photos up on the video wall to illustrate stuff I talk about. Our show together is a great night out and one pretty full of hits and great stories. Ladies and gentlemen....Two Dicks.
